Bio
What is your educational background? I am a Canadian citizen and completed my higher education at Simon Fraser University in British Columbia. I have a 5 year degree with 4 years of undergraduate work in early childhood education and physical geography. My 5th year was my professional development with two practicums: one in kindergarten and the other in grade 1.

What do you like best about teaching?

My favorite part of teaching is when I see students able to access information independently. The joy comes from watching them learn for themselves with tools that I have provided, similar to watching someone open a gift.

How do you prepare students to meet future challenges?

I begin each year with a picture book called Very Last First Time. An Inuit girl in northern Canada goes collecting mussels under the frozen sea for the first time. As the tide is out, she explores the sea floor and then hears the tide coming back in. With perseverance, she is able to accomplish the task of collecting mussels and gets back to the surface of the ice to her mother. My message to my students is to be "okay" with difficult tasks and continue to learn from their experiences. This is something that I strive for in my own life.
